Unmanaged switches allow connected network devices to all communicate with each other but that’s about all that they can do and they don’t feature any form of traffic management.

Managed switches offer all of the same features as an unmanaged switch but with the ability to configure, manage, monitor and even prioritise traffic on the switch. Although not a feature every average user may need, it can be handy if you have multiple devices connected to a switch but want to prioritise for example media streaming traffic to ensure that other devices never interrupt your movies or multimedia streaming needs.
