Normal contrast ratio is achieved by the characteristics of the LCD panel used in the monitor and defines the ratio of luminance between the brightest colour (White) and the darkest colour (Black). Dynamic contrast ratio however helps you achieve a larger ratio of luminance by adjusting the backlighting to either increase the brightest colour or darken the darkest colour.
