Well I think we all knew that Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 was going to be successful, this second installment in the series has been one of the most anticipated titles of the year. Black Ops 2 has now reported to have taken $500m in 24 hours since it went on sale surpassing the old record set by Modern Warfare 3 which had taken $400m on its first 24 hours of sale.
This puts Black Ops 2 sights firmly on the record breaking $775m over five days which was also set by the very popular Modern Warfare 3 which even broken through the $1bn barrier after just 16 days of release, if Black Ops 2 keeps on going the way it is I cannot see why it will not break this barrier as well.
“With first day sales of over half a billion dollars worldwide, we believe Call of Duty is the biggest entertainment launch of the year for the fourth year in a row,” said Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick. Believe it or not the Call of Duty Franchise has taken box office receipts exceeding worldwide box office receipts for ‘Harry Potter’ and ‘Star Wars’ which are two of the most successful movie franchises of all time.
