It seems there is still more to be had in terms of power with AMD's new flagship CPU, the FX-8350. It was only a few weeks ago that we saw enthusiast overclockers taking the CPU to a whopping 7.44GHz, a new record. But it didn't take long for that record to be knocked off the top spot as NAMEGT, a famous overclocker shattered that record, setting the standard at 8.17GHz.
AMD FX 8350
Managing to set the CPU running at 8.176.5GHz with all eight cores active, voltage at 1.932v, a multiplier of 29x and a bucket load of liquid nitrogen. A Crosshair V Formula-Z motherboard was used setup with 8GB of dual-channel memory, so overall some pretty decent equipment and short of the liquid nitrogen it's nothing anyone can't go out and buy without breaking the bank.
There is no doubt that this chip is a great over clocker, but 8.17GHz is a high target and one that is certain to be hard to beat. Of course these kind of overclocks bare little significance to the home user as they couldn't be achieved on your home system with water or air cooling. It does however highlight the potential power house that is hiding away in the latest FX CPU.
What are your thoughts, does the fact that this chip can overclock so well tempt you into a purchase of the new FX cpu? or do you just think extreme overclocking is a pointless statistic? let us know what you think in the comments section below.
