Well its here! Samsung has announced its new, very cleverly named Samsung 840 SSD, which was first seen in IFA 2012. They held a press conference on Sunday the 24th of September to announce the SSD and it has a lot to live up to if we look at its predecessor the 830. Samsung have decided to release a variant of the 840 which will be called the 840 pro and will be for high end users, the only information that Samsung has released about the pro’s performance is a impressive 100, 000 IOPs read and 90,000 IOPS write for comparison to a conventional hard drive it is around three times as much. Samsung have stated that the reason for such great performance comes from the MDX controller that is shipped with the 840.
The vice president of Samsung’s memory division Mr UnSoo Kind said “Introduction of Samsung’s 840 SSD series delivers considerable levels of advancements to the notebook user environment. As a technology pioneer, Samsung continues to raise the level of performance of SSDs and contribute to the growing global pool of users enjoying the conveniences of high-performance SSDs.”
The 840 is rumoured to be released by Samsung through retailers in mid-October so get your money ready as I’m sure that CCL will be stocking this SSD.
