Ooooh, I just don't know where to start with this! Razer have announced their attempt at the tablet mobile gaming arena, and what an attempt. Rather than relying on other manufactures hardware and a dedicated app store, this Razer Edge is a Windows 8 Tablet. "Oh, no" I hear you say, but alas, Razer have stuffed the very latest tech into this bad boy. Just think, a tablet PC that you can play all of the latest PC games on even the resource hungry like Skyrim.
The unit is on their ".co.uk" website but it isn't available to us Brits. So, using the power of my solar powered calculator, here are the "equivalent" prices although I would expect for every US dollar you spend on this, you can pay the same in sterling.
So, for $999 (£624.37 and a half pence) you get the basic one. By basic I mean a third gen i5 at 1.7GHz with 4Gb of RAM and an NVIDIA GT640M LE topped off with 64GB of SSD.
For a measly $1,299 (£811.87 and a half pence) you get the Pro version which has the same GT640M LE but the CPU is now an i7 1.9GHz and double memory to 8Gb and a choice of either 128Gb or 256Gb SSD although no indication on the cost of that upgrade. Both units will have BT4.0 and USB 3.0.
The accessories haven't been forgotten either. There are three docks available, the first providing HDMI, USB 2.0 and stereo sound. This will be available for £99, oops, I mean $99. For those wanting XBOX style controls, a handlebar controller dock will be available at £249, I mean $249. Finally, there will also be a keyboard dock but no prices are available yet (US or GBP). There is also a $69 40Wh battery pack in the line up too which will double the life expectancy of the Edge, no guesses on the UK price.
Razer have said they are offering a bundle for the Edge Pro and the Controller for $1,499 or £936 and some pence.
