Q&A

Do you have you a question about the StarTech.com Mini USB Cables 2.0 - USB A To Mini B Female to Male (1 feet)?

Q: I recently bought one of these from eBay (I know!) to use to connect my external HDD to my media player but the lead I bought doesn't power up the HDD. Would I have the same problem with this? The HDD powers fine from other USB type A sockets but the media player has a USB Mini B socket on the front, hence the need for the adapter. Thanks.
Answer by CCL on 4th October 2013
From what i am aware this would not work as the USB mini port would not supply sufficient power. I would recommend getting a desktop type external that would be powered externally and verify that the mini USB on the media player is capable of doing what you need.

The media player came with one of these cables already and it worked well and powered this same hard disk and played the content on it until the dog chewed through the cable. This is why I am after a replacement.
