Seagate 1TB-per-disk technology marks another major milestone for the hard drive industry. To make this happen, Seagate engineers had to pack 340,000 hard drive tracks into the width of a single inch. This means that, when reading and writing data, the read/write head needs to accurately follow a track that is a mere 75 nano meters wide. That's about 500 times smaller than the period at the end of this sentence. Seagate AcuTrac technology helps enable this incredible feat-reliably and accurately following these nano tracks even in challenging operating environments, like an all-in-one PC with the music turned up. Barracuda 1TB-per-disk hard drives now include a host of refined technologies to further boost performance. Combined, these improvements squeeze even more performance out of storage already known for pushing the envelope.

Best-Fit Applications: Desktop or all-in-one PCs; Home servers; PC-based gaming systems; Desktop RAID; Direct-attached external storage devices (DAS); Network-attached storage devices (NAS).

Q: Hello, I'd like to buy this drive but I wanted to make sure how it is packaged for postage as I'm afraid that I've had to reject 2 other drives from a competitor of yours as they posted the drives in a box which only had one thin layer of bubblewrap & paper to protect it in transit! I've since contacted Seagate & they state this invalidates their warrantee as it doesn't conform to their recommended packaging for shipping. Therefore, could you elaborate on what packaging you use when posting drives?
Answer by Dan on 31st December 2013
We ship hard drives in a larger cardboard box with foam padding. -Danlevan

Q: Do any of you have any experience with these drives? I am considering buying one in the near future, and there is a lot on the internet saying most either never work or fail within a few months.
Answer by Website User on 20th November 2013
This is our most popular 2TB hard drive and we sell a very large quantity of them. Because of this we do see a few of them back (hence the reports on the internet) but the percentage of failures is one of the lowest amongst the 2TB drives and a fraction of that of a competitors model. I would buy with confidence as the chance of problems is very small - TL

Q: I would like to know whether a 2 TB Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM 6 GB/s 7200.14 CCL CODE HDD1317 will work on an HP230d desktop [built ~ 2000] with 2 IDE connectors, on one of which sits plugged in an IOMAX bi-directional IDE/SATA converter.....What I am really saying is...if I order the said Seagate Barracuda and once plugged in via said converter, my desktop does not see the new 2 TB hard drive, can I return said hard drive and get my money back ? I know there is also a possibility of using a PCI adapter, but I would prefer leaving the PCI connector available for another purpose. Thanks for your help. I look forward to your reply...JLM
Answer by CCL on 9th November 2012
As far as we are aware there were no IDE drives over 750GB, and I don't think the IDE connection, nor likely your motherboard, will be capable of recognising a drive this large. I don't think it would work, unfortunately. -Danlevan
