Premium Support and a 3-year Limited Warranty

Confidently upgrade your NAS performance with the assurance of a 3-year limited warranty, coupled with world-class support services included with every WD Red™ Plus drive.

Desktop Drives vs. WD Red™ Plus

Do right by your NAS and choose the drive purpose-built for NAS with an array of features to help preserve your data and maintain optimum performance. Take the following into consideration when choosing a hard drive for your NAS:

  • Compatibility: Unlike desktop drives, these drives are specifically tested for compatibility with NAS systems for optimum performance.
  • Reliability: The always-on environment of a NAS or RAID is a hot one, and desktop drives aren’t typically designed and tested under those conditions like WD Red™ Plus drives are.
  • Error Recovery Controls:  WD Red™ Plus NAS hard drives are specifically designed with RAID error recovery control to help reduce failures within the NAS system.
  • Noise and Vibration Protection: Designed to operate solo, desktop drives typically offer little or no protection from the noise and vibration present in a multi-drive system. WD Red™ Plus drives are designed to thrive in multi-bay NAS system environments.

1 Workload Rate is defined as the amount of user data transferred to or from the hard drive. Workload Rate is annualized (TB transferred ? (8760 / recorded power-on hours)). Workload Rate will vary depending on your hardware and software components and configurations.

Q: how does this differ performance wise to the green?
Answer by Website User on 11th March 2015
Generally speaking, Greens are eco-friendly oriented with less power consumption, whereas Reds are performance oriented drives that spin at variable rates and are suited to 24/7 operation in a RAID array. Therefore the Reds have a higher performance rate than the Greens. -Jake

good deal, great drive for my Nas

I purchased this as an additional drive to be added to an existing RAID group. The drive sits beside other WD Red drives with an earlier version of NASware and they get on with the job they're there to do.

This is the third Western Digital Red 4TB HDD I have purchased and so far, the first 2 being proved to be very reliable and have not had any issues or faulty sectors over 4 years in a NAS drive. Of my many Western Digital HDD's bought over many years; I have had one failure which was speedily replaced under warranty.

This disk with its godlike mechanically spinning platter was easily installed into my NAS' raid and the RAID rebuilt successfully, I can now sleep peacefully knowing my state of the art RAID5 is back to it's top notch self. 10/10 will see you again soon WD

This is a great product. I previously bought 2 of these drives from Amazon which failed within 3 months. Both drives came from Amazon loose in a large box with no protection. I bought the same from CCL computers and it came packed in proper hard drive padded protection case. We are now well past the three month mark and its working fine. It is clear CCL Computers treats these drives with the care they deserve.
