Download and play the full version of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey until 7pm your local time on December 20th, 2021.

The upcoming weekend before Christmas is shaping up to be a big one for gamers. Ubisoft did not want to be left out of the free gaming action, as both Call of Duty: Vanguard and Battlefield 2042 are having a free-to-play multiplayer weekend. But while COD: Vanguard and Battlefield 2042 are focused on the multiplayer action with heaps of holiday-themed rewards and events, Ubisoft is offering Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s entire campaign for free over the weekend.

If you’ve not had the chance to play the game, nor try it, and if you weren’t sure whether you even wanted to, this weekend you can experience part of the game for free. Or whole of it, if you’re a speed-runner, or aren’t planning on sleeping.

The game will be available for download and play on Xbox, PlayStation, PC (via Ubisoft connect) and Google Stadia.

Can I get through the entire game in a weekend?

The short answer is probably not. If you’re looking to just complete it for the sake of completing it and you focus only on the main objectives, the runtime is about 43 hours. That’s excluding the extras, exploration, and side quests, however if you’re a completionist and like to explore and do all the side quests, you’re looking at just under 140 hours of gameplay.

The average time you could potentially spend on playing the game and completing it, without going overboard with every little detail would be about 90 hours. All this is to say that you’ll probably not be able to complete the whole game in a weekend, though if you manage to do so, we’d love to hear about it.

If you manage to complete Assassin’s Creed Odyssey over the weekend while it is entirely free, send us your playtime record, and we’ll give you a shout on our social media. Impressive feats deserve recognition.

Where to download

If you’re gaming on PC, in order to get the free weekend, you will need to go through Ubisoft Connect, rather than through Steam. For the consoles, you will need to go through your respective console’s marketplace in order to download/redeem the game.
For the PlayStation store, you will have the option to select to buy a game or to do a ‘Trial’. Trial is the free weekend version, so make sure you select this when downloading.

Even better news if you’re gaming on the Xbox, as Assassin’s Creed Odyssey is on sale for £13.74, a massive £41.25 discount. You can still try then game before you buy it, even at this price.

You will have access to the game while the free weekend is on, though the game will become locked after the free weekend is over and you will need to purchase the full game to continue playing.

The good news is that all your progress and decisions made during the free play weekend will be carried over if you decide to buy the game.
