What This Product Does

The 300Mbps Universal WiFi Range Extender TL-WA850RE by TP-LINK is designed to conveniently extend the coverage and improve the signal strength of an existing wireless network. With its miniature size, wall mounting design, a Range Extender button, and 300Mbps wireless N speeds, extending a wireless network and eliminating “dead zones” has never been easier. Plus, its Ethernet port allows the TL-WA850RE to act as a wireless adapter and turn a wired device into a wireless one.

300Mbps Range Extender

The TL-WA850RE is designed to conveniently extend the coverage and improve the signal strength of an existing wireless network. Extending and strengthening your wireless signal eliminates “dead zones”, maintains an existing wireless network, and vastly improves the network’s coverage. With 300Mbps wireless 802.11n speeds, it is also ideal for smooth HD video, music streaming and online gaming.

Flexible Deployment

The device's miniature size and wall-mounted design make it easy to deploy and move flexibly. Plus, the TL-WA850RE's profile function remembers previously paired wireless networks, meaning there is no need to reset the device when changing the paired router.

Plug and Play

With no new wires or cables, you can easily extend wireless coverage by pushing the WPS button on your router followed by the Range Extender button on the TL-WA850RE or vice versa. Note: you must be within the range of your existing wireless network to extend your wireless coverage. An additional push of the pair button can quickly establish an encrypted connection with client devices.

Ethernet Bridge

The TL-WA850RE's single Ethernet port allows the Extender to function as a wireless adapter to connect wired devices like Blu-ray® players, gaming consoles, DVRs, and Internet TVs. At the same time, the device can share the wireless network as well.

Smart Signal Indicator Light

5 signal lights represent the current signal strength that TL-WA850RE receives from an existing router. This can help to find the optimal location to place the range extender so that the TL-WA850RE can achieve the best possible range and performance.

Universal Compatibility

The TL-WA850RE works seamlessly with all 802.11 b/g/n wireless devices. It is also compatible with the latest Windows 8 operating system.

Q: how can i disable my wireless connection if i use the lan connection rj45?

If you are using an ethernet connection you can simply disable the wireless in Control Panel on Windows systems. -MR

Q: Does this act as both a point for wired connection and a wireless extender? Does the ethernet port act as an input or is the mains the input for the connection? I'm hoping just to plug this in, then connect to it in the desired room its in.

This device functions independently as a range extended by picking up and rebroadcasting a wireless network. The Ethernet port allows you to connect a device that does not have wireless to the network. -Danlevan

Q: I have a virgin media super hub. Will I need to buy 2 of these so that one is plugged is next to them modem with an ethernet wore running to it from the modem and then the second placed wherever I like in the house?

Q: Looking fo a range extender from my Orange box to an outbuilding about 40m away. Will this product work and what are the alternatives? Currently using a Bear Extender with a 5dbi antenna, doesn't quite reach the building. Thanks John..

It's certainly possible, but wireless connections aren't really designed for this type of use. A separate building ideally should have its own internet connection and wireless network, or be connected through a wired connection. -Danlevan

I assume you mean a WPS button, used to create a wireless protected setup between two devices? This device does have that feature, the button is in the centre of the power LED ring. It should work just fine with your router. -MR

Q: would plugging my laptop into then tl-wa850re with an ethernet cable be like plugging it into the router. My concern is that it is my work laptop and it is all preconfigured. I can plug it into the router which is downstairs but i want to use it upstairs. would it be any different than plugging it into my wireless router?

Your laptop should detect this as being connected to a standard wired connection, as this extender controls all the wireless connection settings. -Danlevan

Works for me. Really easy to set up (I would recommend modifyi g the WiFi name to the same as the source WiFi, but that is not essential) and gives me great WiFi in my garden in addition to a wired network connection for a pc.
