This product is a wi-fi repeater - not a Powerline Unit - it receivers a wi-fi signal and repeats it effectively extending the range of a wi-fi router. The 'passthrough' bit it useful so it doesn't use up a mains socket. It is easy to set up and looks smart.
I had an area of poor reception that I was hoping it would cover and expected to place the unit somewhere in between it and the router. The unit tells you if it is in an area of good or poor reception and it was disappointing to find it needed to be pretty near the router before it showed its reception was good. I guess I was hoping a repeater would be good at extending the range by receiving a weak signal and boosting it. It seems this needs to be in a good signal area to start with so, in my case, the extra range I got was less than hoped. Having said that it did the job I needed at the time - and for the price I ended up a happy bunny.
