MINECRAFT SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS FAQS

Our PC builders get asked lots of questions from parents and new PC players relating to what PC they need to play particular games. Below are some of the commonly asked questions relating to Minecraft, answered by our trusty team of PC experts.

What Graphics Card Do I need for Minecraft?

“For a budget-friendly option, the integrated graphics of the Ryzen G-series processors is good enough. I'd consider the GeForce GTX 1650 or Radeon RX 6500 XT though, as these can handle the game smoothly at 1080p resolution. If you're aiming to use resource packs and shaders, a mid-range card like the GeForce RTX 4060 or Radeon RX 7600 is recommended. It you want top-end with ray tracing enabled, high-end cards like the GeForce RTX 4070 or Radeon RX 7900 XT offer exceptional performance too. Remember to consider factors like resolution, resource packs, and ray tracing when making your decision.”

What Processor Do I need for Minecraft?

“For most players, a mid-range processor like the AMD Ryzen 5 5600X or Intel Core i5-12400F will provide ample performance. These processors offer a good price/performance balance and can provide smooth gameplay even with resource-intensive mods or large worlds. If you're running a Minecraft server or engaging in heavy modding, a higher-end processor like the AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D or Intel Core i7-12700K can handle the increased workload. However, for casual players, a mid-range processor is usually sufficient.”

How Much Do I Need to Spend on a Minecraft PC?

“For a budget-friendly Minecraft PC, allocating around £400-£600 should be just fine. This budget allows for an entry level system with integrated graphics like the Ryzen 5 4600G, or go for a step up in the AMD Ryzen 5 5500 with a budget-friendly graphics card such as the GeForce GTX 1650 or Radeon RX 6500 XT. While this configuration might not be ideal for high-end settings or resource-intensive mods, it will provide a smooth and enjoyable Minecraft experience.

For a more powerful build capable of handling demanding mods and shaders at and high-resolution gameplay, a budget of £600-£1000 is recommended. This allows for a more powerful processor like the AMD Ryzen 7 5700X3D, a mid-range or high-end graphics card, and additional RAM.”
