Seagate 1TB-per-disk technology marks another major milestone for the hard drive industry. To make this happen, Seagate engineers had to pack 340,000 hard drive tracks into the width of a single inch. This means that, when reading and writing data, the read/write head needs to accurately follow a track that is a mere 75 nano meters wide. That's about 500 times smaller than the period at the end of this sentence. Seagate AcuTrac technology helps enable this incredible feat-reliably and accurately following these nano tracks even in challenging operating environments, like an all-in-one PC with the music turned up. Barracuda 1TB-per-disk hard drives now include a host of refined technologies to further boost performance. Combined, these improvements squeeze even more performance out of storage already known for pushing the envelope.

Best-Fit Applications: Desktop or all-in-one PCs; Home servers; PC-based gaming systems; Desktop RAID; Direct-attached external storage devices (DAS); Network-attached storage devices (NAS).

Q: Bought this, installed it and lo, Win7 doesn't recognise it. I can see it in the device manager but I can't put an operating system on it because Win7 doesn't have the correct drivers. Any ideas before I go down the returns option ?
Answer by Website User on 7th February 2014
Please try going to Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Computer Management then select disk management under storage and check the status of the drive you can format and initialise the drive making it visible in windows. Although when trying to install Windows from Power up/ boot up the installer should recognise any un-formatted un-inisilised drives. If the drive fails to format that will indicate that it is faulty and you would need to send back for a replacement.

Q: does this work well in a mac pro 1.1. i hear could be problem in this drive being recognised and does it slot into the bays or does it need additional leads.
Answer by CCL on 8th May 2013
You shouldn't have any problems using this with a Mac Pro as a SATA hard drive connection is universal. I'm not certain on the internal fittings of a Mac, it may have a bay with connections already present, but I would assume it would be like a PC and require you to connect it with a SATA data cable. The power supply should have available connections to power the drive, though splitters are available if not. -Danlevan

Q: The manufacture stipulates that the interface for this model is SATA3 6gb. Your details say SATA2 3gb interface? Can you clarify
Answer by CCL on 19th April 2013
I believe Seagate have updated the spec of this drive at some point from its original setup on our system so it is now shipping listing a SATA III connection, however as a mechanical drive there is no speed difference between running it on a SATA II or III connection. -Danlevan

Q: The Hitachi 500GB (raid) drive in my 2009 year HP computer has failed. I wish to buy replacement of 500GB or 1TB, and I think I would need the appropriate installation software. I am more concerned with reliability than the price. Any advice or comments welcome, Thank you, Douglas Brady
Answer by CCL on 19th September 2012
This drive is supplied drive only, but if your hard drive has failed the only software that could come with a drive would not be of use, as this would be cloning software to copy existing data. The only thing you would need along with this drive would be Windows installation media. -Danlevan

I bought this hard-drive and it stopped working, i took it back and got a brand new hard drive which is working brilliant... thanks
Customer on 21st August 2012
Works great. Didn't need to install any extra software, such as the Intel Rapid Storage Technology since Windows 7 has NCQ built in. Cheaper than Caviar Blue's and have better read/write speeds too. My only gripe is the packaging. Granted, it wasn't damaged in any way but the 'box' it came in was little more than cardboard shell with no bubble wrap. I'd still definitely recommend this drive to anyone looking for 1TB.
