Apps are one of those weird things; just about 3 years ago we had no real concept of ‘Apps’ but now our lives would somehow fail to operate without them.

You now need an alarm clock app to get you up in the morning, apps to tell you what to eat for breakfast and maybe an app to catch up on the news headlines. You need an app for your bus / train times or tell you if the traffic is going to be terrible or totally ridiculous. You of course need an app to keep you entertained whilst on the move too. At work you might justify a smart phone for reading your work emails, keeping to-do lists, editing documents, or keeping LinkedIn. You’ll of course need calendar notifications to tell you when it is lunch time and home time (like you would ever forget!). Your leisure time now seems to be app-time and you tend to avoid places with no 3G or Wi-Fi access. The pub quiz turns into “Google it” competitions and the dirty donner can now be procured in any unfamiliar place. Or if you are feeling more active, apps help you run the perfect race; the can keep track of scoring and point you in the right direction of the perfect ski run. If feeling out of sorts, the quickly downloaded app doctor will attempt a diagnosis. Are apps taking over the world?
