Q: I am a novice with technology - how do I record tv programs & films onto my external drive
Answer by Dan on 15th April 2016
That would be far to broad of a question to answer in our product questions unfortunately as there's so many ways and devices you could be connecting this hard drive to for recording. If you're wanting to record from a TV directly then this should be covered in the TV manual or the manufacturer of the TV will be able to give more detailed support. -Danlevan

Q: I have had this hard drive for 2 months and just now my partner knocked it on the floor (only from the sofa) but it was plugged in to my laptop at the time. The program stopped responding, which i expected, and i removed it and after restarting my computer I tried again. The blue light lights up but nothing happens and i can no longer hear the hard drive 'working' if you know whatI mean. It has EVERYTHING from my laptop on it! It wont work with my TV either anymore so it's not the laptop...what can I do? Is there a way to recover my infomation? thanks in advance Danlevan :)
Answer by Website User on 24th April 2014
If the drive was running at the time there is unfortunately a good chance that the drive has been physically damaged, meaning that the data may be lost. It's also possible however that the enclosure is the part that has failed, meaning that the drive inside could be removed and fit into a computer or another enclosure to recover the data, however doing this would void any warranty on the drive so this would be at your own risk. -Danlevan

This just happened to me too ad it wasn't dropped! Anyone get an answer???
0 customers found this answer helpful.
Answer by Website User on 16th June 2014
Due to a hard drive being a set of spinning disks with a head that reads from them (like old Vinyl music), if the disk gets a big knock while powered on when the heads are over the disks it is possible for them to touch and damage the drive. The only way possibly get data back off a drive this has happened to is to consult a data recovery company - but it can be quite expensive. It is usually easiest to recover from a backup. - TL

Q: Hi, Can anyone confirm if this is PS3 compatible out of the box please? Or if I have to work a bit of techno wizardry (gulps) to make it work on my PS3? Any advice would be great, Thanks in advance. Paul
Answer by CCL on 24th December 2012
This is not compatible with the PS3 out of the box, You will need to connect to a PC and format it as FAT32, Then open "My Computer" and double-click on your empty external hard drive. Now, create a folder system identical to that on the Playstation 3. Right click to create a new folder and name the first folder "Photo". Do this for "Music", "Video" and "Game". When you are finished, you should have 4 folders total in the hard drive. Each folder should be empty. Hope this helps. Regards, Mike

Q: I have had a look at formatting my m3 to FAT32 but the drop down only gives me the option of NTFS or exFAT !!! Any ideas how to get it to show on my ps3 ???
Answer by CCL on 17th December 2012
As the PS3 only supports FAT32 for an external hard drive you would need to format it that way. Normally this is not supported in Windows so you would need to do this manually. There are guides available to do this online, such as the one at Online Tech Tips, or you could give our Technical team a call on 01274 471204 or e-mail them at technical@cclonline.com -MR

You can only format for one or the other - if you used it one one and then moved to another it would not work and ask you to format it, however if you did you would lose all data on it! -MR

Answer by CCL on 4th December 2012
For drives this size NTFS is definately better as FAT32 is less efficient, particularly with larger volumes. You can use other formatting tools for it to be formatted larger than 32GB if you did want FAT32 however, but the drive should be fine. -Danlevan
