I find the web interface useful but at times confusing and there are so many apps ; most of which I'll never use. File copy/transfer using the web interface was slower than copying direct to the drive but that's to be expected I think. I just use it as a file store currently as backup for my 2 old Netgear NAS. Having a Win10 compatible device makes browsing a lot easier. I haven't done any of the tutorials etc which may explain why I don't understand the default directory structures as they seem to be duplicated except for an S on the end. And I'm not sure whether they are a mirrored copy of the default home directory as I copied data into both directories - I very confused by them. No doubt there are cleverer people out there than me that understand what's going on. It seems to be more User Login based than my old Netgears which were generic storage for everybody but if you wanted private storage you created logins. Synology appears to be the other way round. I haven't as yet tried the remote access to the drive over the Internet. It may or may not be useful, only time will tell. Probably for me a bit of an overkill in terms of functionality but I have my important stuff backed up and mirrored on up-to-date drives. I guess I could have just done it with external hard drives but I like the mirror functionality of a NAS.

Bought as a file server. Easy to set up. High Quality kit. Will do much more than I am using it for!

This is a very complex piece of equipment. There are detailed instructions for computer geeks but very little for anyone else. For instance I am still having problems mounting it as a computer drive. Every time I start the computer, I have to go through the logon procedure with password to get the NAS on line. If the mains power fails, the unit will not power up on power restoration: you physically have to push the power switch on the unit, unlike the router to which it is coupled. This is a pain. The manual addresses many more complex problems but ignores these two simple features.

I purchased the Synology NAS drive after my Dlink NAS had issues. Fitting drives into the enclosure is easy and straight forward. The configuration however is not. I wanted to be able to access the drive away from home. CCL do not support the software and trying to work out which of 3 Synology forums gives the best advice is not easy. Using the support ticket system with Synology is slow and requires logging in every time. After 3 weeks I cannot sonnect from my phone and just have a good home NAS.

Simple to get up and running, seems well built. There is no hot swap cradles at this price but its easy to open and install. Software management system is straight forward, but might be daunting for some.
