Christmas is just around the corner and video game sales are going through the roof, all of this year’s big hits are now out and doing their thing to fight for that all important Christmas number 1 spot, in fact many are just fighting to be anywhere near the charts overall and as you can expect, competition has been fierce. So many amazing games have launched this over the last few weeks as November and Decembers sales figures see Call of Duty Black Ops II, Halo 4, Borderlands 2, Hitman: Absolution, Dishonoured, Need For Speed, Forza and the usual wave of yearly sports title updates all selling well into the millions as fans and Christmas shoppers reach out for the latest titles, but all that is about to calm down, Christmas is almost out of the way and soon it will be time for the calmness of the January sales ;)

While there aren't as many AAA launches in the early part of the year, most of which are saved for Easter and Christmas time launch windows, there is still plenty to sink your teeth into and there are still a few big names in there too, ones trying to dodge the Christmas rush or perhaps some that have their development pushed back a little, either way there may still be something to spend your left over Christmas month on come the turn of the new year.

Early on in the month we have a HD remake of the classis Choplifter, a simple 3DS game with Crush 3D and King Arthur II on PC for those of you who love a little strategy, not the strongest start off to the month I will admit. But moving down from there we have our first major Wii U release of the year will Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge, A game I'm sure will go down well with those who invested in the console and a promising action title to add to the strong Wii U launch window line up.

There is no shortage of strategic gaming next month either, King Arthur II, M4 Tank Brigade Online, Battle Academy - Operation Sealion, Steel Armor Blaze of War, Real Warfare 2: Northern Crusades and Sparta 2 - Alexander the Great should keep strategic war gaming fans occupied for many months to come.

Other big releases next month include Prince of Persia on the 3DS and original Wii, Ninja Gaiden Sigma set to give Vita owners sore thumbs, the new Devil May Cry finds its way over to PC and finally Resident Evil: Revelations lands on the 3DS.

It's certainly shaping up to be a good month for gaming, sure it doesn't compare to the AAA blockbuster packed end of this year, but there are still some quality titles to look forward to over the next few weeks. So which games are you most excited about in January, or are there still too many games from 2012 that need ticking off your list? let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
