Bethesda releases new Skyrim DLC teaser

A return to Morrowind could be on the cards for gamers.

Bethesda, the studio that produced Skyrim, has this week released a teaser shot trailing new downloadable content (DLC) for the game. Which means that every member of the gaming press has looked at a single image of a monster wearing a helmet with tentacles on it and made ASSUMPTIONS.

As Tech2's Shunal Doke notes, the single image - released via Bethesda's Twitter page - seems to show the main protagonist of Skyrim, the Dovhakiin, only wearing a new kind of armour. That armour has birds on the shoulder pads and a helmet made of tentacles. Try not to get too excited.

What this could mean is a return to the world of Morrowind that runs through the third Elder Scrolls game. According to a number of sources, Morrowind has been heavily hinted at in recent updates to the game, with as-yet-unused files named 'DLC2' and 'Dragonborn' acting as major indications that Bethesda is planning a return to Morrowind for the franchise.

Similar unpackaging jobs done on files downloaded as part of the latest updates suggest that it will also be possible to ride dragons in the latest DLC, with animation files found hinting towards this.

DLC for Skyrim has already been made available by Bethesda this year, which seems to suggest the studio is working hard to give gamers fresh content throughout the life of the game. The Heathfire add-on released in August allowed Skyrim players to purchase land and build property in the game, aping the popularity of free-world build-a-thons such as Minecraft.

Meanwhile, the Dawnguard DLC released in June (for the Xbox 360 only) pitted gamers in the midst of a war between the Dawnguard, a group of vampire hunters, and… well, some vampires. It's not yet clear what the next DLC will entail, but a return to Morrowind will undoubtedly include a race of dark elves, as well as key locations from the third game.

With all this downloadable content, it makes sense to get your gaming rig in order before embarking on another adventure. Be sure to upgrade your hard drives and maybe consider a new wireless gaming mouse so you can fully immerse yourself in the new game world Bethesda has planned.ADNFCR-1220-ID-801482392-ADNFCR
