Multiplayer online battler Dota 2 has received an update that adds a new hero, as well as an array of balance changes and new store items.

Crossed between a horse and a rhinoceros, Magnus the Magnataur is a master of melee combat and is able to conjure up devastating team attacks using his Reverse Polarity ability, which heavily stuns an enemy, allowing the rest of the team to move in for a coordinated kill.

He also has the capability of empowering allies close by, allowing them to boost the amount of damage they can inflict and adding the "cleave" effect to their offensive moves.

For those who really want to cause some damage, they can get Magnus the Magnataur to charge across a long distance and skewer as many as four enemies on his sharp horn.

The character has a dark history too, spending his time goring hunters who came to his land in search of his people's treasure.

Along with Magnus, players have a far wider selection of items to buy from the shop and the game has been balanced with an extensive list of changes that have addressed damage issues, movement speeds and cooldown times, to name a but a few.

Dota 2 is technically still unreleased, with players only able to play the early test access. However, it is expected to get a full release by the end of year on a free-to-play basis.

It tasks players to take on a character called a "hero" who then has a specific responsibility in team combat. Its gameplay draws heavily on the Defense of the Ancients mod for Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos, which it is a standalone sequel to.

Valve will make money through Dota 2's store, which allows players to purchase items for in-game use with real cash. The announcement was largely spurred on by the success of Team Fortress 2's free-to-play model.ADNFCR-1220-ID-801465018-ADNFCR
