Konami have revealed that Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is to get a PC release alongside its console counterpart.

Madrid-based Mercury Steam, the same team of developers behind the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 version, will create the game for PC gamers, bringing the mix of an enthralling storyline, deep exploration and fantastic fighting gameplay to mouse and keyboard.

"This new game tells a much broader tale and one that spans centuries," said David Cox, producer and head of product planning and development at Konami Digital Entertainment. "It is a game that pushes whatever format it is on to the absolute limit.

"There’s a darkness coming and with our new game engine, we hope to deliver something truly special across multiple formats that will set new standards for action adventure games."

Lord of Shadows 2 is set to bring an even larger cast of characters than its predecessor and a giant open world with breath-taking visuals through the new in-house video game engine Mercury Engine 2.

The game will return to the story of Dracula, following on from the first game, which detailed where the infamous vampire came from and how he is connected to the title's Belmont family. Lords of Shadows 2 will see Dracula trying to escape his immortality while trying to regain his powers, with his legendary castle at the heart of it.

"Castlevania: Lords of Shadow successfully rebooted the franchise but now we want to go further and exceed people's expectations on what to expect from the sequel," said Mr Cox.

The Castlevania series is one of the oldest and most loved video game franchises in history. The first game came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1986, putting players in control of Simon Belmont in the year 1691 on a quest to defeat Dracula.
