Mass Effect 3: Leviathan DLC plot elements revealed

The history behind the Reapers could be revealed in the Mass Effect 3 DLC Leviathan.

Aspects of the plot of the forthcoming Mass Effect 3 downloadable content (DLC) Leviathan has been revealed, suggesting some exciting titbits about the origins of the Reapers could be unveiled.

At the Electronic Arts (EA) Summer Showcase, the developer and publisher made suggestions about the game's content.

"Mass Effect 3: Leviathan is the first story-driven, single player DLC to be made available since Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut," the description read.

"Leviathan expands upon the events of Mass Effect 3 with gripping and emotional storytelling, compelling new characters, powerful weapons and unique upgrades. Players will be able to discover more about the origins of the reapers as they race across the galaxy to unravel the mystery that surrounds the fabled Leviathan."

The Reapers in Mass Effect are a race of synthetic-organic starships that come from deep space where there are no stars. They hibernate there for 50,000 years at a time before returning to wreak havoc and destroy all organic life in the galaxy. This cycle of destruction has been repeated for the last 37 million years, but there is no known motive for their actions.

Their name was bestowed upon them by the Protheans but among the geth they are referred to as the "old machines".

No release date has been confirmed for the DLC, but this will no doubt gets fans of the series eagerly excited.
It has been confirmed at the Summer Showcase that Mass Effect 3 will be a launch title for the upcoming Nintendo Wii U game console, as well as Fifa 13.

Developers BioWare has revealed that the version of Mass Effect 3 will not be a straight port, but it will come accompanied with DLC.
