Peter Molyneux reveals more details on Curiosity

Further details about social media game Curiosity have been revealed by developer Peter Molyneux.

Curiosity, the new game from industry legend Peter Molyneux, will be released on August 22nd.

Further details have emerged on the new massive multiplayer offering from games industry legend Peter Molyneux, Curiosity, which is to be released on PC and a number of other platforms on August 22nd.

Molyneux, the English designer behind seminal titles such as Dungeon Keeper, Populous and Black & White, made the announcement at the indie and PC game show Rezzed in Brighton.

The much-hyped title encourages players to chip away at a cube that's formed of 60 million different cubes, attempting to uncover the mystery that's at its core - with many gaming sites posting fevered speculation on what the contents of the structure could be, reports Eurogamer.

Gamers will find something that "is so valuable and so life-changingly important," according to Molyneux.

"It's so amazing I think it will appear on news reports, though it's not a dead cat, by the way," he added.

Curiosity's framework will be able to support some one million players working on the block at any one time, with users frantically racing to be first to crack into the cube and uncover its secrets.

In the context of recent discussions over downloadable content (DLC) as a way of monetising the gaming market and offering continued improvement to established titles, Curiosity is likely to spark even more debate when it is finally launched later in the year.

The 22 Cans game will feature a variety of updates aimed at making it easier for users to make their way to the centre of the cube. Molyneux told the New Scientist that these will range from an iron chisel that will cost 59 pence to a diamond chisel - only available to one player - that will be priced at £50,000.

"This is not a money-making exercise; it is a test about the psychology of monetisation," said the designer. Many gamers will no doubt be excited to see how the situation develops when the title is released.ADNFCR-1220-ID-801407715-ADNFCR
