Guild Wars 2, one of the most anticipated games of the year, has been given a late summer release date by developers ArenaNet.

A brand new trailer revealed that players eagerly anticipating the massively multiplayer online role playing game can expect to get their hands on it on August 28th.

Before the release date, there will be one final beta weekend event from between the 20th and 22nd July, following on from a four hour stress test carried out last weekend.

The game will once again be set in the world of Tyria. It will follow the re-emergence of a once disbanded guild that fought against the Elder Dragons, a species that has taken over the world since the first Guild Wars.

It takes place around 250 years after the end of the final Guild Wars expansion, Eye of the North. Players will be tasked with bringing together the members of the lost guild and bringing an end to Zhaitan, the undead elder dragon.

Guild Wars 2 will feature a state-of-the-art story system that adapts to players choices through dynamic events, which are replacing the traditional questing mechanisms found in online role playing games.

There will also be a greater emphasis on the environment in combat, allowing players to use their surroundings as a weapon to provide more vibrant battles.

Fans of the original will be pleased to find out that, like the first title, Guild Wars 2 does not require any subscription fees, just a one-off fee to buy the game. This differs from most other massively multiplayer online role playing games that typically charge a monthly amount to have access to the title.

Players of the original are able to reserve their in-game name from Guild Wars so they can guarantee its availability in the sequel. Simply by logging in since January 1st, 2012, a player's name will be added to an active list, preventing anyone from registering it on the title's launch day.ADNFCR-1220-ID-801396137-ADNFCR
