Counter-Strike: Global Offensive beta evolves

Valve Software has released a new update to the closed beta of Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

Developer Valve Software has released details on a variety of changes it has made to Counter-Strike: Global Offensive during its beta.

The most notable change is to increase the number of players allowed on all official maps from five versus five to 15 versus 15. This is one of the "most requested map features", according to Valve.

It comes as part of a large update to the game that makes a variety of changes to the gameplay, user interface and audio, as well as a few bug fixes.

Improvements have been made to how guns in the game respond to burst firing, the fiveseven gun has had a slight increase to its damage to bring it in line with other pistols and the behaviour of computer-controlled bots has been developed.

Perhaps the most insignificant but important changes to the gameplay is that chickens have now been added to the map Inferno. At least gamers can now kill a bird in cold blood if they are having trouble defeating other players.

Global Offensive has been in development since March 2010, with Hidden Path Entertainment working in collaboration with Valve. It began life as a port of Counter-Strike: Source to the Xbox 360, but soon became a game of its own, looking to expand upon previous titles in the series.

It was first revealed to the public in August 2011. The closed beta for the game started three months later in November, with around 10,000 gamers allowed access to the title.

Valve intends to release the game once it is satisfied the title is as refined and polished as can be, with all bugs ironed out of the game during the beta. This is expected to be sometime this summer.

Global Offensive will offer a new game mode for fans of the series entitled arsenal. It is based on the gun game mod from previous titles, where players have to make kills using each gun in their armoury.ADNFCR-1220-ID-801370875-ADNFCR
