Payday and Left 4 Dead crossover in the works?

A crossover game between the developers behind Payday: the Heist and Left 4 Dead is in the works.

Overkill Software, the developers behind the first-person shooter Payday: the Heist, is to work with Valve on an in-depth crossover with Left 4 Dead.

The games do share similarities. They are both first-person shooters that have a focus primarily on cooperative gameplay. In Payday: the Heist you team up with three friends to battle against waves of cops while taking hostages and robbing banks.

In Left 4 Dead, gamers are required to do the same, but with more zombies and less hostages, cops and banks.

"As perceptive gamers will have noticed, several hints have recently been dropped into Payday: the Heist, which has led to various rumours. We are excited to be able to confirm that an in-depth collaboration between Overkill and Valve is currently in production," said game director at Overkill Ulf Andersson in a statement announcing the collaboration on the company's blog.

"We are working on a very cool blend of Payday and Left 4 Dead. I am sure it is so exciting that it will have some players check into the hospital before we are done."

Details on exactly what the game will entail remain slim at the moment, but gamers should certainly keep an eye on how it unfolds.

Overkill was recently acquired by Starbreeze Studios, the Swedish developer behind The Chronicles of Riddick games and the recent reboot of the Syndicate series.

Under the supervision of Starbreeze, Overkill has been working on new downloadable content (DLC) for Payday: the Heist entitled Wolf Pack. It will include a Technician skill tree, three new weapons, a crew bonus, new player upgrades, a raised level cap, a deployable sentry gun and two new heists.

Previous DLC has included a mask with the resemblance of Richard Nixon for the in-game characters to wear, which pays homage to the classic heist film Point Break. In it a group of surfer bank robbers wear masks based on US presidents to disguise their identity.ADNFCR-1220-ID-801367961-ADNFCR
