Blizzard opens Diablo III beta

Gamers are to get free access to an open beta for Blizzard’s Diablo III this weekend.

Blizzard Entertainment is hosting a free open beta event this weekend that allows gamers to give Diablo III a go ahead of its release on May 15th.

Anyone with a account can log-in to join the fun as the developers seek to discover if the game and its servers can survive the three-day stress test.

The beta kicks off at 20:01 BST this evening until 18:00 BST on Monday, April 23rd.

Gamers will be able to team up with their friends to play each of Diablo III’s five heroic classes up to level 13 in a battle against an oncoming demonic invasion.

They can choose from the Witch Doctor, the Barbarian, the Wizard, the Monk or the Demon Hunter and once they have got a character to level 13 they can then go back and do it with another one.

After the open beta finishes on Monday, the closed beta will also close just over a week later on Tuesday, May 1st.

Diablo III has been a long-time coming, with development on-going since its initial announcement in summer 2008. Its predecessor Diablo II was released 12 years ago in 2000.

The latest game takes place in a dark fantasy world called Sanctuary where, 20 years after the events of the second title in the series, another evil army of demons are threatening the land’s inhabitants.

Familiar locations such as Tristram will be available for exploration and familiar non-playable characters Deckard Cain and his niece Leah, who accompanies gamers on occasional quests, return.

The gameplay of Diablo III will be largely similar to that of the previous games. Players can expect to crawl through dungeons hacking and slashing their way through anything that moves in order to find treasure and complete quests.

Blizzard is also expecting to bring the game to consoles at some point in the future.ADNFCR-1220-ID-801345376-ADNFCR
