New and improved edition of The Witcher 2 released

The PC version of The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition to be made freely available to owners of the game.

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition update has been made available free to owners of the PC game by developers CD Projekt Red.

PC gamers can experience the award-winning roleplaying game now with four hours of extra quests to embark upon, 35 minutes of brand new cut-scenes and cinematics and over 100 other improvements.

All previous updates and downloadable content, such as the arcade arena mode and separate tutorial system, will be included in the Enhanced Edition as standard.

Those new to the game who buy new version will receive a quest handbook, a world map and a CD of the game's soundtrack.

In addition, Xbox 360 owners will be pleased to hear that the new version is also being released for the Microsoft system. This is the first time the series has made its way on to consoles.

“But we haven’t forgotten about our current PC players – owners of the game on PC can download the Enhanced Edition update from our webpage for free," said Adam Badowski, the head of CD Projekt RED.

"I want to invite all new Witcher fans to – we’ve proven several times that fan feedback is important, so tell us what you think of our game."

The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings follows the mature and provocative story of Geralt of Rivia throughout a realistic fantasy world where he works as a monster hunter for hire.

Its famed REDengine and innovative artistic direction provide a visually stunning game while the complex combat mechanics make for an intensely tactical experience.

The pioneering morality system in the game, which means each decision players make can have extensive repercussions to the plot's progression, has also received plaudits from fans and critics alike.

In a month of good news for fans of the series, CD Projekt Red recently announced that everyone that owns The Witcher 2 can receive a complimentary DRM-free copy of the game from video game distribution service
