Crytek's next instalment in the groundbreaking first-person-shooter series, Crysis 3, will be set in a post-apocalyptic New York City urban jungle in 2047.

According to details released about the game the city has been encased in an enormous nanodome that has been built by the corrupt organisation known as Cell. The evil corporation has decided to slowly take over planet Earth section-by-section by establishing these domes that seem to drastically alter the environment under the pretence that they are there to protect the population within.

The protagonist takes the role of Prophet who has snuck into the New York City dome with the objective of hunting down the people behind Cell to find out the truth behind what they are doing and stop them in their tracks.

However, Prophet will have to simultaneously battle off the Ceph aliens that have been in the series since its first instalment.

New York City will be a giant sandbox arena with gamers able to freely traverse the jungle environment rising out of the city's ruins made up of overgrown trees, thick swamp land and powerful rivers. There will be seven districts to explore, each known as one of the Seven Wonders and treacherous in its own special way.

"Crysis 3 is a thrilling mix of sandbox gameplay, advanced combat and hi-tech human and alien weaponry that shooter fans will love,” said Cevat Yerli, chief executive officer of Crytek.

"Leveraging the latest CryENGINE technology, we’re able to deliver seven unique themes that offer stunning and visually loaded gameplay experiences. We cannot wait until people get their hands on the game.”

Crytek hopes to release the game in Spring 2013 and pre-orders are up for the special Hunter Edition of the game, which includes extra multiplayer bonus features such as weaponry and dog-tags.

Although the game is a long way off and details are few and far between, one thing is for sure: Crysis 3 will certainly be breaking new ground in terms of graphical performance.ADNFCR-1220-ID-801341123-ADNFCR
