Halo 4 brings 'dramatic innovation'

Dramatic innovations are on the way when Halo 4 finally launches, according to developers 343.

Halo 4 is promising "dramatic" innovations, as new developer 343 Industries unveils the first screen shots.

Creative director Josh Holmes, franchise head Frank O'Connor and executive producer Kiki Wolfkill, told Computer and Video Games that the gameplay will be sharper, faster and more intense.

Holmes explained how when the Halo franchise was handed to 343 to tackle, the group decided that it was important not to dwell on what the game had previously achieved in its hugely popular lifespan.

Instead, 343 sought to evolve within the Halo universe. Holmes explained: "As a team when we embarked on this creative journey one of the things that we really wrestled with is how do we balance the respect that we have for the legacy of this game that we love so much, with our desire to innovate and push things forward."

The screenshots show Master chief looking sleeker and more agile in less bulky armour, but no less intimidating as he carries a gun half his size.

Wolfkill told the publication that the first aim with the development of Master Chief was to provide more of a first-person experience, giving gamers an idea of what it would be like to actually be the character, rather than just control his movements.

The second goal is about developing that character further, she said, adding: "There is such a rich fiction around Master Chief and John that exists in other mediums that haven't traditionally been experienced through the games.

"So we're going to really try and pull the curtain back on Chief as John, but also his motivations and what's really going on behind the mask."

The team has admitted that there is a lot going on with the development of Halo 4, but that is not to say that the gameplay will be totally different, with sandbox gameplay being at the heart of the new title.ADNFCR-1220-ID-801310056-ADNFCR
