Me.ga Shutdown before it even started

Kim Dotcom's latest venture stumbles at the first hurdle with the Me.ga domain revoked.

Following on from the saga that was MegaUpload, with its links to copyright infringing material and its distribution that ended in the closure of MegaUpload. Its head Kim Dotcom decided to start its successor, named Mega using the url me.ga. The URL was registered with the internet TLD .ga which is for Gabon in West Africa. Following Kim Dotcom’s announcement and the domain name registration the URL gained a huge amount of traffic, even though there was just a placeholder at the address. Unfortunately for Kim Dotcom ahead of its debut the URL has been suspended by the people behind the TLD (the Gabon Ministry for Telecommunications). The minister responsible for the action Blaise Louembe said in a statement to the press, that his country “cannot serve as a platform or screen for committing acts aimed at violating international copyrights, nor be used by unscrupulous people.” Kim Dotcom’s legal representation told the gathered press that the launch of Mega is on track but it could feature a different URL.
