Swedish government website jammed by hackers

Julian Assange supporters claiming responsibility via Twitter

News has broken today that Swedish government websites were attacked causing them to fail for many hours yesterday, with supporters for the WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange claiming to be responsible for the attack on the site on Twitter.

The Swedish government, Armed Forces and the Swedish Institute were just some of the websites that suffered issues due to the attack, but officials have stated is is still unclear who has behind the attack which used the DDoS method, known as a denial of service attack in which a website is essentially overrun with massive amounts of garbage traffic, having much the same effect as rush hour on the M25, things just grind to a halt and no one can get through.

Julian Assange has been held since June 19 to avoid extradition to Sweden, where prosecutors are waiting to question the founder of WikiLeaks over the secret-spilling site and over alleged sex crimes.
