Western Digital ceasing the manufacture of PATA (IDE) drives

Is this the first nail in the coffin for IDE drives? We've seen a lot of motherboard manufacturers removing IDE ports from their boards, but now the manufacturers are removing IDE drives from their line-up

In an E-Mail received earlier this week, Western Digital informed us that there would be one final shipment of PATA drives from WD after that the PATA drives for Mobile and Desktop will go end of life.

I’m sure there are enough IDE drives in circulation to allow older system users to upgrade and expand their storage, but we’ve seen a steady rise in IDE drive pricing as demand has gone down over the past couple of years.

Does this mean it’s time to finally let go of your IDE based system and make that move over to SATA? Given the limited read and write speeds of IDE we would strongly advise it for modern day applications and usage.
