DayZ Standalone released as early access Steam title

Alpha release, so still a long way to go

The time is finally upon us! The standalone version of DayZ has been released as an early access game title on the Steam client. It'll cost you £19.99 for access to the early Alpha stage of the game, which comes with a warning not to buy the game unless you are prepared to handle the issues and bugs contained -which from the comments there are a lot.

On the release page, the development roadmap suggests a year wait until the game is able to enter Beta with all key features, but the roadmap is a long one, and the features that they are looking to add encompass ones that have been added to the current Mod version such as user created constructions and crafting options.

Some of the included features in the Alpha release are the return of the popular Chernarus map, 40 players server support, persistent player profiles, crafting, weapon customisation and customisable clothing.

DayZ is a gritty, authentic, open-world survival horror hybrid-MMO game, in which players follow a single goal: to survive in the harsh post-apocalyptic landscape as long as they can. Players can experience powerful events and emotions arising from the ever-evolving emergent gameplay. There are no superficial tips, waypoints, built in tutorials or help given to players. Every decision matters, there are no save games, no extra lives, every mistake can be lethal. If you fail, you lose everything and you need to play again from the beginning with nothing but your wits, and your two hands. Fight the hostile environment, where every other player can be friend or foe and nothing can be taken for granted.
