In a Kotaku interview with Microsoft, confirmation has been made that the Xbox One controller will be compatible with the PC in 2014. In an emailed statement to Kotaku, Microsoft have said that "There is some work that we need to do to make sure that existing PC games that support the Xbox 360 controller will work with the Xbox One controller. While it seems trivial, it’s actually quite a bit of dedicated work for all that to be seamless for the user. We know people want to use the Xbox One controller on their PC, and we do too - we expect to have the functionality available in 2014."
This is very good news for console gamers making the leap to what some call superior PC gaming, as it will then allow them to use a controller that they will be accustomed to. Meaning they then wont have to learn what could be an alien layout in using a keyboard and mouse - although for FPS games keyboard and mouse in my opinion is still superior.
Currently the standard Microsoft Xbox 360 Wired Controller for Windows (Black) is the best one to go for while we wait for the compatibility issues to be resolved and the controller released however just from the above article it certainly seems as though Microsoft have managed to reinvent the wheel with their new controller. As even I can attest the 360 controller is one of the best and most ergonomic controllers, it also works out of the box with a massive amount of games, with most even changing the legends on screen to reflect the change.
