Microsoft are trying to drum up some more new apps for their own App Store by running a competition to find the next big app.The prize that Microsoft is offering is a spot in their prime time US TV add (running during NCAA basketball tournament) and also other gifts along the way such as Nokia Lumia 920 Windows Phone and a one-year free Dev Center subscription for everyone who makes it into the top 64.
The rules for the contest are not too strict, basically, who has a Windows Phone app published in at least one country by 5 March can participate. Microsoft will then narrow it down to the top 64 apps. It looks like users will get to vote on their favourite out of two apps in a head to head contest. As Todd Brix senior director of Windows Phone apps explains “Consumers all over the world get to vote and decide who should be the Next App Star. Based on user ratings and Redmond's own quality metrics, each week's field will be narrowed to 32, 16, eight, four, and two, until the grand-prize winner is chosen”
You need to ensure that you opt into the competition by visiting the Microsoft Dev Center by the 5th of March.
