It is compatible however not reccomended as it will not utilise the performance of this unit at all. Windows 7 is much more compatible with this setup.... (more)

if i connect hmdi cable to dvi-d via adaptor will it carry audio to tv/monitor

Unfortunately you cannot, the adapter will not allow to pass through audio DH
