Do you have you a question about the Samsung SH-S222A 22x DVDRW (PATA/IDE)?

Q: how much power does it have
Answer by Website User on 16th March 2015
DVD drives don't really have power as part of their specifications. If you're wanting to know how much power the drive would use, it's typically around 25W for a DVD drive. -Danlevan

Q: After I have fitted the device to my PC and I switch the PC on again, it does not re-start properly and wants to boot from CD. This did not happen previously. If I remove the device, the computer start normally. My system is Windows XP
Answer by CCL on 27th August 2013
It's likely that either the DVD or hard drive have their jumper settings incorrectly set - old IDE drives had to use jumper settings to correctly identify themselves, otherwise they'd get mixed up. In this case it sounds like the jumper settings are set to identify the DVD drive as the primary drive, so your computer tries to boot using that rather than the hard drive. Check out the article below - it explains jumper settings on IDE drives. Just set your hard drive to "Master" and your DVD drive to "Slave" and this should fix it! -MR http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/how-to-set-jumpers-for-your-computers-ide-drive.html

Q: Does anybody know about the compatibility with the Linux O/S?? I'm running Mint Linux at the moment. Thanks Martin
Answer by CCL on 4th March 2013
A quick look online shows that this drive does work with Linux, but I don't know if this would be with a third party driver or be recognised automatically as we don't really deal with Linux. -Danlevan
