Q: DEEPLY disappointed. Have just received & installed the hard drive bought as *clearance* after being assured me they were just ‘box open’. There is an audible clicking noise & the screen displays ‘hard drive failure’ !! Packaging is fine so I must have been sent a broken HDD. What assurances can you give on these hard drives?

We'll never knowingly sell a faulty item, so I would expect this one has suffered in transit unfortunately. Not all damage to mechanical hard drives will be obvious from the outside as the moving parts inside could be damaged by a jolt. Everything we sell is covered by a warranty, even clearance items, so if you do receive a faulty drive will will take this back for a return and either exchange or full refund for you depending on available stock. -Danlevan

Q: Hi on this hard drive's specification tab you are advertising a 3 year warranty. Does this mean that the 3 year warranty is back or is this just an oversight ?

Q: Can these drives be used on SATA1 or SATA2 boards?

SATA I, II and III are fully backwards compatible with each other, and will simply run at the speed of the slowest one in use. -Danlevan

Q: WD have recently reduced their warranty on hard drives from 3 years to 1 year. We are disappointed by this development which looks like it might be followed by other hard drive manufacturers.

This is a measure WD have had to take to try to recover from the Thailand floods, which severely disrupted their manufacturing and distribution.
