Can the drive also be used in a desktop PC that uses 3.5" drives? Is an adaptor required? Couldm the drive be used as an external data storage disk and it there any advantage in that? Or is it more suitable for permanent installation?

This drive is 2.5", so you would need an adaptor. The momentus drives cache the regularly used data in the flash portion of the drive for faster access, generally this ends up being operating system and key programs. If using as an external drive you would likely not see this benefit. -Danlevan

SSDs are still a fairly new technology, so their overall life is still something we can't say for certain. You can defrag a Momentus XT and it won't break it. The way the SSD portion works is that it refers to hard drive sectors, so when you defrag these will change and it'll take the drive a little while to find the commonly used sectors again for the performance boost. -Danlevan

will this work in the above laptop? it has a shockingly slow 5400rpm drive. Also do you have and 2.5inch USB 3.0 hard drive encloses?

I've seen this exact model at a much cheaper price than your offer. I thought you guys were the cheapest when it came to computer hardware.

Hard drive pricing is still in fluctuation due to the supply issues caused by the Thailand floods. The price we have for these drives is the cheapest we are able to do them at this time, and I note that the site you linked currently have no stock so could well increase in price when they stock them again.
