There are 3 categories of CAT being: CAT5 - Which supports speeds up to 100Mbps data transfer rates CAT5e - Which is capable of speeds up to 1000Mbps data transfer rates CAT6 - Which is certified to offer speeds up to 1000Mbps data transfer rate, as well as offering better shielding against crosstalk (interference) over both cat5 and cat5e
