At the beginning of the review we listed the claims that CoolIT make about the Domino A.L.C. So how accurate are they? High Performance:
It is clear from the results achieved on the last page that the product performs far better than high specification air coolers from other manufacturers. Feature Rich:
This is not so clear cut, there are certainly some nice features such as the onboard LED and monitoring but there is also room for improvement. A USB connector could have been employed, for example, allowing us to use control software within Windows to change profiles and monitor temperatures. The addition of software control would also mean that the case side does not need removed to change the performance profile. Universally compatible:
No problems here, all of the major processors are supported and through use of the AM2+ bracket, AM3 CPUs should work without issue. Indestructible/Fail-Safe:
The Domino feels well built in most areas. Firm pulls on the piping have no effect but there is a minor issue with the strength of the power wire clip. In terms of "fail-safe", through a simple test of jamming a pen in the fan to stop it turning we are happy to report that the alarm bell started ringing and the LED display alerted us to a problem. Like the performance of the unit, this is another area where there are no concerns. Generally we stay away from liquid cooling for our review systems as they can be incredibly time consuming to install (and remove) but in the case of the Domino we plan to use it in most of our upcoming reviews. The installation is actually much simpler than some high performance air coolers, and safer too thanks to the use of protective cups around the screws. Summary:
CoolIT have created an affordable, flexible and easy to use product which performs better than top performing air coolers, yet it costs as little as pumps from some manufacturers.
