Seagate has unveiled a network hard drive which allows families to back up their media collection.
The Maxtor Central Axis network drive provides up to one terabyte of storage which can be linked to multiple computers in a home, to allow for video, photo and music files to be centrally backed-up.
In addition, the drive can be accessed remotely, allowing members of the family to upload and retrieve content over the internet.
Automatic back-up of the computer on the network can also be carried out by the Maxtor Central Axis network drive, removing the responsibility from the user to save data on the second system.
BenHur Castor, director of product line management for Seagate's consumer solution division, commented: "Back up is essential to make certain photos, videos and other important files live beyond the life of an individual computer.
"The Central Axis network drive provides a complete solution for back up storage as well as file sharing in the home and from the road"
Furthermore, the drive can also be used with a range of other multimedia systems, including the Microsoft Xbox 360 and Sony PlayStation 3.
Earlier this year, Seagate released its Showcase range, which extends the storage capacity of digital video recorders to over one terabyte.
