PC manufacturer Acer has signed a multi-year, worldwide partnership with software security provider McAfee, it has been announced.
From the second quarter of 2008, all of Acer's PCs will be shipped with a free version of the powerful McAfee security suite.
Making the announcement as part of its first quarter fiscal report, the software company added that it has started shipments of software under a new agreement with Sony Japan.
"In the first quarter of 2008, McAfee reported record revenue and our ninth consecutive quarter of double-digit year-over-year revenue growth," said Dave DeWalt, chief executive of McAfee.
"We are winning new business from users seeking security suites that provide comprehensive and integrated protection from an ever-evolving threat landscape. McAfee offers suite solutions for endpoint, data, and now network," he added.
Taiwan-based Acer, the third largest PC maker in the world, recently announced that its first-quarter profits fell by 48 per cent year-on-year, due mainly to large investment in the acquisition of US manufacturer Gateway.
