Processor manufacturer AMD claims that its new Xilleon panel processors can help to raise the standard of LCD TV screens.
The new chip family was unveiled this week by the firm and incorporates motion compensation and a frame rate conversion function.
This allows footage with a frame rate of 24 or 60 Hertz to be upscaled to 120 frames per second.
Rather than simply repeating frames over and over, the processor estimates the stages in between to guess the positions of objects and fill in the missing frames.
AMD explains that the chips are an effort to prevent jerky motion or artefacts detracting from high-definition images when viewed on LCD TVs.
Dr Sang Soo Kim, executive vice-president and fellow at Samsung Electronics, says: "AMD Xilleon panel processors customised with Samsung proprietary McFi technology are enabling us to set what is essentially a new industry standard."
AMD recently launched its Spider platform, combining the power of AMD Phenom quad-core processors with the ATI Radeon HD 3800 series of graphics cards.
