Ollie, nollie, frontside, fakie, heelside edge, grind, pivot and pogo. Lost? Maybe the new Tony Hawk game is not for you.

The best bits from the hugely popular first two games are being stuck together to make the ultimate skateboarding experience for those who prefer not to break bones and graze knees.

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD is, as the name suggests, also a high definition title, making the skills and spills even more graphic than ever.

Although it is an amalgamation of existing material, publisher Activision insists that all the various courses and challenges has been given a fresh update to provide an "all new skateboarding experience".

Skating legend Tony Hawk is not the kind of celebrity to just slap his name on anything, and as with the earlier titles, he has again been involved in the game development.

"We're going back to the core of what made the original Tony Hawk's Pro Skater games so popular, while leveraging today's console power and online capabilities," he said.

"We've updated many elements to reflect today's skateboarding scene as well. Long-time fans of the series will appreciate the huge amount of polished content at a very low price."

Activision's David Oxford says that his firm was delighted to get the chance to work with "American icon" Hawk yet again, such is the impact he has had on the gaming world.

"Tony Hawk's Pro Skater HD just feels right – we're simply giving fans what they've been clamouring for," he added.

The first game bearing the skater's name was released in 1999 and was an instant hit with fans and critics, who praised its innovative approach to sports gaming and the introduction of an authentic punk rock soundtrack.
