The makers of The Elder Scrolls V: Skrim have been "blown away" by the public's response to the game.

Skyrim was released just three weeks ago, but the response has been massive. Critics have eulogised about everything from the gameplay to the graphics, while sales have also been strong.

The title also stormed its way to the top of the Steam charts, with the number of gamers streaming the title far exceeding the amount playing games such as Battlefield 3 or Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3.

"We're simply blown away by the response, from new and old fans, and amazed by the sheer number of people playing the game," read a posting on the Bethesda Softworks blog.

"It's been absolutely fantastic hearing your stories, seeing early mods, and watching fan videos.

"We wouldn't have this success without you, and we want you to know we're committed to making your Skyrim experience even better."

Even the odd game glitch has done little to derail the Skrim train, and Bethesda confirms it is still working on fix patches. The next update will ensure that magic resistance calculates more accurately, and kill-off the rarely spotted backwards-flying dragon.

But fix patches are just the tip of the iceberg. In January, gamers will get their own creation kits, giving them access to the same development tools that the people at Bethesda used to create the game.

In addition, the firms has partnered with Valve to put Steam Workshop into the Creation kit. This will bundle the user's modification and allow them to upload it to Steam, where other users can browse, rate and flag other uploads. Flagged mods will be automatically downloaded the next time the user opens Skyrim.

So gamers who have already lost days of their life to Skyrim will be likely losing a few more come January.
