People in the gaming industry expected Battlefield 3 to be the pretty popular with the masses, but few will have anticipated the stunning success it has achieved.

The title has shifted ten million units from Electronic Arts (EA) distribution centres since it was released on October 25th.

Such a staggering rate of sales has made it the fastest-selling game EA has ever made, beating the likes of Mass Effect, Need for Speed, Dead Space and all the sports titles like Madden, Fifa, NHL and NBA Jam.

Even EA itself admits it was caught out by the popularity of the title, as the armies of fans descending online to play the multiplayer game were greeted by problems with access codes and server issues.

Developer Dice admitted that there had been problems, but it has moved to assure fans that it is taking immediate steps to get them back into the business of shooting and bombing as soon as possible.

"We've deployed a number of server-side updates in our first week that have solved a number of the primary connectivity challenges, and have accelerated our roll-out of the number of hardcore servers," the firm said in a blog post.

While Battlefield may have won the battle, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 hopes to win the war.

The developers Sledgehammer Games are already pushing COD as the "most anticipated game of all time", with a massively revamped multiplayer system.

Whichever game turns out to be the most popular, there are a number of products out there designed to enhance the experience for PC gamers.

The
Speedlink Strike FX Wireless Gamepad gives PC users the chance to enjoy the same freedom of movement and precision afforded to gamers using the PlayStation 3, while the Cooler Master Storm Spawn Gaming Mouse is ideal for those who prefer the more traditional mouse option.

Engineered to be lightweight and ergonomic, the Spawn uses an ultra high-performance 3500 DPI sensor and micro switches designed to sustain over five million clicks.
