Western Digital's SiliconDrive III solid state drive (SSD) range is ready to be shipped.

The company created the SSDs after acquiring SiliconSystems in March this year.

Included in the collection of SSDs is the 2.5-inch Serial ATA (SATA), Parallel ATA (PATA) and 1.8-inch Micro SATA products.

These feature SATA 3.0Gbps or ATA-7 interfaces with write speeds to 80 MBps in capacities up to 120GB and target read speeds up to 100MBps.

Michael Hajeck, senior vice president and general manager of
Western Digital solid state storage business unit, said: "SiliconDrive III is an ideal solution for OEMs that require increased performance, capacity, reliability and data throughput in their applications."

He added that the series of SSDs is the first example of how the company plans to globalise the sales and distribution of the technology brought over from SiliconSystems.

PowerArmor, SiSMART and SolidStor from Western Digital are incorporated into the SSD series to provide performance and reliability.

Earlier this month Western Digital revealed the world's first 4 TB external hard drive for Mac enthusiasts and creative professionals.
