Provider of technology systems and products Toshiba is to release a new 256-gigabyte (GB) solid-state drive (SSD) and a range of small-sized flash modules.

The new SSD comes with an original MLC controller that can achieve higher read-write speeds, while the flash modules are being brought to the market to support stripped down netbook computers and other related equipment.

According to Toshiba the 256GB SSD offers lower power consumption than HDD alternatives as well as higher speeds.

The firm explained: "In addition, as there are no mechanical parts, SSD products are also more robust and reliable than
HDD counterparts."

It was claimed it was to continue to support innovations in the NAND Flash market as well as "continued leadership" in the field.

Toshiba has been operational in Europe for more than 30 years, employing approximately 4,000 people in the region.
